We didn't lose as much during the second season but that is to be expected, we had less people and well it is harder to lose weight the more that you lose. We lost 40 total pounds this time. Which if you add the two seasons together then we have lost 140lbs - which is a person!!! Pretty awesome huh. I am thinking about waiting until after vacation to start any other season. But I will keep this blog open and going for those who want support or help with their weight loss.

I'm Sorry

I have been horrible at leading the group this season. I am sorry. I just seem to be so busy - I don't know what I would do if I had more then one child to take care of. I wish I had been able to put a lot more effort into it this season - I am really going to try and make a major effort for the last few weeks.

First Challenge as Promised!!

Hello Family
How many of you have looked at the food pyramid lately?? I remember looking at it in school but it has been along time since I have really paid attention to the information. For the first challenge Barb had suggested something with eating your fruits and veggies. That is what led me to look at the food pyramid again. I was wanting to find out what the recommended amount of fruits and veggies had changed to. I was surprised when I found the site with the information - they no longer has a one size fits all approach to nutritional value. So that leads me to the first part of the challenge. Since we are all different I can't just assign a number a fruits and veggies for you to eat each day. So I would like everyone to long on the http://mypyramid.gov/ do some snooping around and find out what they recommend for you. On the left side of the mypyramid page click on "MyPyramid Plan". From there you enter your personal information and it will tell you what the daily recommended values are for you. You will need to look this up before the start of our week on Monday because starting next week you will be eating according to the recommended values. We will start with fruits and veggies next week. Have fun with the site - it has a lot of good information there. And if you want to share what they recommend for you I think it would be interesting to see how the recommendations change the age and gender.

They recommended 3 cups of veggies and 2 cups of fruits for me.

TBL - Rettele Style - Season Two

Well we have officially started season two. WooHoo!!! How is everyone doing?? Are we finding more motivation this time around?? We are loving the warm weather - we go for walk/jogs almost every night.

At Easter it was mentioned that you want to do more challenges - if you have any suggestions on what you would like to see let me know.

This is just for fun - so you don't have to participate if you don't want to. I know we all have made some healthy changes in our eating habits. But I don't want you to get stuck in a rut so.... I challenge you to try something new in the produce selection. Also wanted to announce another challenge!!!!!!!!!!!

Since the weather has been nicer - I am thinking about doing a workout challenge. Nothing major like you have to follow this workout or anything. And I know that we are all busy and might not have a complete half an hour to workout. But I would like everyone to try to workout for at least 2 hours next week. You can break the workouts up however you want. Just make sure they total 2 hours at the end of the week. Like the other challenges this one starts on Thursday and will last a week. If you don't make it you will owe an extra dollar for that week. Any questions, comments or concerns let me know.

My new favorite food is sweet potatoes - I cut them up into large fries and bake them in the oven with a little evoo and seasoning salt. Jakson loves these - Josh tolerates them.

Next Challenge!!

I am still waiting on a couple of weigh-ins - but I'll post results as soon as I get them all. I wanted to let everyone know that we are starting our second mini challenge - WOOHOO!! You know you love them. We can all thank Barb for this great idea....

Food Journals!!

I know it's a little late to start on this week, so the official (cost you a dollar if you don't do it) challenge won't start until next Thursday. But I thought that a heads up wouldn't hurt plus writing in a food journal everyday can take some time to get use too - so I thought you could use this week as practice so that you can go right into the challenge without any problems.

You can use anything as your food journal, I don't care as long as it gets wrote down everyday. It is also a good idea to update them during the day instead of trying to sit down at night and trying to remember everything you put in your mouth. You have to be completely honest with this - WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN. If you bite it write it! I am also suggesting that you write what you are feeling down when you ate what you ate - were you bored, upset or actually hungry. Then at the end of the week you can look back and see where you need to work. If you eat at night while watching TV - find something else to occupy your hands. If you eat when you are upset - try calling someone and talking instead of eating. These can actually be a lot of fun and very helpful is your weight loss journey.

What is your Motivation???

besides the money and bragging rights of course. Last year my workout motivation was going to Colorado and getting to go on the hike with Joel, Barb, Dylan and Bailey. It was awesome to be able to complete that goal and can't wait to go again this year - maybe with a few more people??

So if you don't mind sharing - What is motivating you to work your butt off???

I have two - 1. I want to make my goal weight
2. We want to re-take our wedding pictures for our 5th year anniversary so I want to look amazing in the dress.

First Weekend

Did everyone survive your first weekend?? It will get easier - I promise. I wanted to announce that our first mini challenge will start this Thursday. Since you have had a week to adjust to a healthier lifestyle. I want to help you continue on that path. Starting the second week you will need to make sure you are drinking at least 64oz. of water everyday. It doesn't have to be plain water (I use crsytal lite to flavor mine). So for one week you have to drink 64 oz of water/day (hopefully you will continue after the week is over though). If you can do that then you owe nothing if not then you owe another dollar to the biggest loser fund. I think it will be fun. Don't forget you can come to the blog with questions and support.

Taking measurements

Taking your measurements is an excellent way to keep track of your changing shape as you get fit. When you burn fat and increase your muscle mass, you may weigh a bit more even though your body is getting tighter and smaller. Here is how you take different body measurements. Remember to keep your muscles relaxed while you're measuring. Having someone else take the measurements will help them be more accurate. Just make sure you measure in the same spot everytime.

1. Bust: Don't squish yourself -- measure all the way around your bust and back right at your nipple line, and make sure the tape measure is not lower.

2. Chest: Measure under your breasts but as high up as you can go, keeping the tape measure parallel to this line when you reach it around your back.

3. Waist: Measure wherever it is the smallest (if you have "no waist" go around yourself right at the navel line).

4. Hips: Measure at the very biggest part -- even if that is so low that you are almost on the top of your thighs.

5. Thighs: Measure wherever they are the biggest.

6. Calves: Measure wherever they are the biggest.

7. Upper arm: Measure wherever they are biggest above your elbows.

8. Forearms: Measure wherever they are biggest below your elbows.

Info Update

OK Family~
Here is what I have come up with so far:
The contest will officially start on Thursday 1/8/09. You will need to officially weigh in sometime that day (I recommend first thing in the morning - just make sure to weigh in at the same time every week). You will then need to email me (sister_lizz@hotmail.com) your starting weight and you weigh-ins for each following week. I will track every ones progress and figure every ones weight loss % for that week. If you are not the biggest loser that week you will have to pay one dollar into the Biggest Loser fund. The winner will be announced on Easter Sunday. I am also going to have random weekly challenges, to help motivate and keep us on track.

I also miss calculated this competition will actually be 14 weeks long with the final weigh in on 4/9/09. If any of you have any questions let me know - my email is above or you can call me.
